SHNG.A is founded by Shuang Wu, an architect licensed in New York and California.

After graduating from Columbia University’s Graduate School of Architecture, Planning and Preservation (GSAPP), Shuang began her practice in New York City at a boutique architecture studio, working across residential architecture and art exhibition design. She later moved to San Francisco, developing a technical role at major architecture firms across corporate, institutional, and public projects.

Working across different scales, building types, and phases of practice shaped a perspective grounded in both architectural thinking and technical execution. One idea became increasingly clear: architecture is shaped by how things work.

A wall is not only a surface. A window is not only an opening. A roof is not only a form. Each is part of a larger system of climate, material, structure, energy, and construction. This perspective has led SHNG.A toward a more integrated approach to architecture — one in which technical knowledge is not simply used to resolve design, but actively informs it.

SHNG.A approaches design through these relationships. We believe technical knowledge can generate architectural possibilities. Performance can shape space. Constraints can become opportunities. And a building that responds intelligently to its environment can possess a beauty that is not applied, but inherent.
